A new book by one of my favorite authors! Chris McLaughlin has a new book just released on the topic of heirloom flower gardens. And once again, I am learning new things from a born mentor. First of all the book is a feast for the eyes, and a trip down memory lane as I remember seeing these blooms in my Nana's country garden. Each entry shares the history, curious information, and tips on growing. And then there are the craft ideas! McLaughlin knows just how to hit a girl where it counts. I love nature crafting and can't wait to put some of these ideas to work in my home.Using fresh heirloom flowers in soaps, bath salts, table arrangements, and flower crowns. I know three little girls that would love to have flower crowns! I was also happy to see the section on using heirloom flowers as natural dyes, as Chris McLaughlin started me on my natural dye journey a few years back, in her previous book, A Garden to Dye For. This book will delight you or whoever you gift it to.
This book is THE best garden book I have ever purchased. The author educates the reader on the history of various types of heirloom flowers, all the while offering 'oodles' of information about what heirloom flowers are best for cuttings, fragrances, in craft projects, etc. The photography and the illustrations sprinkled throughout the book are spectacular. The book is filled with practical suggestions, ranging from wha/what part of each type heirloom flower is edible, what plants/flowers are poisonous, how to use flowers in crafts projects, beverages, and beautiful arrangements. Highly recommend purchasing for yourself and as a gift for your garden lover friends.

It walks you through, with smiles and wonderment of this authors wit..... and... its so enchanting you just can't put it down.I really enjoyed this book I just want to read it over!
What a perfect, pretty gardening book! The pictures are wonderful, but what I really like is how the information is presented. Many gardening books get bogged down in too much detail or can’t seem to display the information needed in a format that’s useful, but this book has avoided that and it’s fun to read too. I’ll never look at a Hollyhock again the same way! I really do enjoy this book and I’ll be taking it along with me on my trip to the nurseries.
As a writer and photographer myself, I can appreciate the work that goes into producing a book of this standard. Things to love: Hardback cover (which always feels more luxurious to me when reading for some reason!), exceptionally beautiful photos, an amazing layout, and a writing style which draws you into the book and makes you want to get out into the garden and start planning straightaway! I love Chris's way with words and the stories which accompany each flower profile - it's like revisiting an old friend in each flower, but learning a little bit of something else you didn't know about that friend.. And there's a project or two which takes me back to my childhood of flower pressing, making flower crowns, and some flower scrubs. Beautiful!
As in her previous books, Chris’ book is not only packed with great information, it’s beautiful to look at. Perfect for setting out for guests to thumb through, but also a very interesting read. I’ve been gardening for close to 40 years and I love having another great source of information. There’s always more to learn!Thanks for another cool book on my kind of subject!!Not a book for hiding on a bookshelf but out where it can be seen!!Love it! 💕
Chris McLaughlin does it again! She knows how to make you feel like you’re sitting right next to her while she shares with you some informative & fun Knowledge about these flowers! So much story and personality as well as wonderful suggestions on ways to use them. I enjoy showing this book to others- it’s definitely gift quality! Simply a gorgeous book inside and out!
I really enjoyed her last book, A Garden To Dye For, and this one is another home run. Her style of writing is a beautiful marriage of information and entertainment. The photography is very well done which makes it a great table piece.
