I loved Little Golden Books as a child and I love sharing them with my child. We try to read our child different kinds of books but there's something special about being about to share timeless stories for little golden books. This book is about a bunny trying to find the right place. He meets different animals on his journey and in the end finds his home with his family. The artwork is gorgeous and the story is sweet and simple. It's great to read to younger kids at bedtime as it has a very gentle pace and slow action. Highly recommended for fans of animals, Margaret Wise Brown and classic simple stories
The reviewer who said that Golden Books had inexplicably ruined a classic was absolutely right. For some bizarre reason, the publisher decided to delete some pages and add new pages with illustrations that are supposed to be just as good as those done by Garth Williams. (Yeah, riiiight.)This is a classic instance of trying to fix something that is not broken. It is still a darling story, but if you are looking for the exact book that captured your imagination when you were a child, this ain't it.To say that I am disappointed is an understatement.
"Spring, spring, spring," sang the frog, from a pond by fresh green grasses and flowers. "Spring," said the groundhog, his arms raised in celebration. So begins this lovely book, telling how a small brown bunny goes down the road and down the road one day when the butteflies are swaying on stalks and a flora botanica of the brightly colored small flowers are unfolding in the warm sunlight. The bunny meets three baby robins still wearing bits of their blue shells, a somewhat inhospitable ground-hog, and the frog in his bog. In none of their homes can this sweet-faced bunny find his home. UNTIL.....The Little Golden Book is a poem, written like a small song by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Garth Williams with the precision and color of the millefleurs tapestries of the Middle Ages. It is loving, friendly, unfussy, and perfect, a beloved book since 1956---reprinted fresh and sparkling new as children, parents, and grandparents remember it.The book boards are sturdy, heavy cardboard, the pages are strong enough for years of turning by small hands, and the Amazon price is unbelievably low. I have just purchased five copies as Easter-spring greetings for family & friends and yes, one for myself. No reservations or reader alerts. "Home for a Bunny" is a heritage gift at a peeps price.
I used to read this to my 2 sons when they were young. They loved it so much that they memorized it & I would pause to let them finish a sentence. They're both grown with families of thier own now so I bought a copy for each of them. Inside the front covers, I wrote a little note that I hope they enjoy reading it to thier kids as much as I enjoyed reading it to them. Cute story, nice pics, wonderful memories. Enjoy!
This books popularity surprised my co teacher and myself. I often add a board book to my Amazon order as a surprise for the little ones at work. Hey who doesn't like to discover a new book on the shelf! Its held up quite well despite being well loved by a hoard of one year olds. Its simple repetition and rhyme have endeared it to all twelve of them! It is the book most often taken to the teachers to be read. I will be ordering a couple others to act as back up. One year olds don't share well and they all want this book.
I have loved this book for a long time. I read it many times to my own girls. It was the perfect book to purchase for my niece for Christmas. The story is so cute about a bunny finding the right home and companion. Along the way the bunny encounters other animals who live in homes that would not be suitable for him. It is written so well, with repetition and rhymes. The illustrations are great, with many recognizable spring wildflowers including tillium and trout lily.
My daughter's favorite story, I was looking for a copy for my grandchildren. Disappointed in books condition- entire page block loose several seperated from main block as well. Multiple bent pages as well. Would not call condition good at all.
It's a cute book. But it doesn't have as great of a quality as the Little Golden Books of the past, which is somewhat of a disappointment. My niece loved it anyways. But it is cheaply made. The binding is not made that evenly. It is hard to open it comfortably.
Sweet book. My daughter loves this book. We brought this as a "something new" to keep her occupied on a car trip. She made us read it to her so many times, the whole family had it memorized! Yay for Golden Books!
