About the Author
With a love of nature and broad-ranging metaphysical beliefs, Maggie Oster has spent a lifetime studying and interpreting gardens and gardening. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University and a Master of Science degree from Cornell University, both in horticulture. Her writing and photography have encompassed a wide range of topics, culminating in eighteen books, including Reflections of the Spirit: Japanese Gardens in America. She has contributed to books, written newspaper and magazine articles, appeared on television, and served as a regional editor for the website of the National Gardening Association. Many of her books and articles feature her own photography. John Lander, originally from San Francisco, California, has spent half his life in Asia. Based in Kamakura and Kyoto, he has ample opportunities to capture local events, gardens in season, and Japanese life. Lander has a passion for Japanese festivals, hot springs, and local foods, but his first love has always been Japanese gardens. The calendar is gorgeous, with beautiful zen and Japanese garden images. At the bottom of the pages with the days, there is a note about where each picture was taken. No intrusive quotes. Just simple nature and a bit of information. Very carefully packaged in a solid cardboard box with a solid cardboard insert.
I have ordered this same calendar for over ten (10) years. It hangs in my kitchen and always gives me s moment of quiet tranquility when I stop to look at it. Each calendar, each month is beautifully created.
The photographs in this wall calendar are lovely and encourage meditation and contemplation. They look almost like windows on your wall, and the colors are heavy on the saturated greens so common in Japanese photography. I bought this for my mother, and she loves it - and, as the months pass, I'm clipping the photos for myself!
Beautiful images and paper quality, but they list so many holidays and moon phases that take up enough valuable writing space that I'm having to use correction tape to make room for my own entries.
I get this one every year. Such pretty pictures. Glossy paper. High quality.
